Drug Take Back Day – April 26

Drug Take Back Day – April 26

Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital, in partnership with the Accomack County Sheriff’s Office and the Eastern Shore Community Services Board, is hosting a medication collection and disposal event on Friday, April 26, in recognition of the DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. The event will be held at the Riverside Onancock campus from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

This secure, drive-through event offers a safe and anonymous way for community members to dispose of unwanted or expired medications. Only pills and patches will be accepted—no liquids, needles, or sharps. Signage on-site will direct drivers to the appropriate drop-off location, and in the event of inclement weather, the event will move indoors.

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) emphasizes that proper medication disposal helps prevent misuse, overdoses, and overdose deaths. Keeping unused medications at home can lead to accidental ingestion or intentional misuse. Throwing them in the trash or flushing them can pose risks to people, animals, and the environment.

Take this simple step to protect your household and community. Clean out your medicine cabinet and participate in this important public health initiative. We’ll see you on April 26th!
